What do you all use for tracking hits on your site?
I'm currently using sitemeter.com, but I have to log in separately for each of my sites. I'm wondering if there is something better out there. Something free or low cost that I can track all the hits on all the sites in one place. I especially need to see where people click from, which I do now. But to be able to track search engine and keyword hits would be extra nice! Any ideas? _________________ Pascale Le Bris

I use awstats, I also build my sites on the wordpress foundation, I use the Stats function on those as well. _________________

I too use awstats for most of my sites. However, I also use AddFreeStats. I still use this one because it's the one I started out with when I built my first site (MommysHelperOnline.com) and it's a HUGE site. AddFreeStats provides me with enough information that I need that I'd never even dream of changing it now. Too make a long story short - this of course was quite a few years ago and at that time, for AddFreeStats I had to add the code to every single page. Not messing with it now, lol! Although, here sometime in the future, if I ever find either the time to do it myself or the extra funds to hire someone else to move that site all over to a WP format. When I do that I will be using awstats.
And one more thing ... sorry, I have to bring this up just to be sure you and anyone else who may be lurking around. You're not really tracking HITS are you do know that hits are a worthless piece of information, right?
For anyone who doesn't know already ... hits are like I said, basically a worthless piece of information. For example, let's say you have 10 graphics on your home page. For every one visitor to your home page, you will get 11 hits. One for the visit itself and 10 more for every graphic on your page.
This is important to know if you're really into tracking your stats. I know some folks who live in their stats. I'm pretty much the complete opposite - I go to the other extent which is just as bad as being in there constantly, lol! However, I do have to go in there regularly so I can keep my advertising page up to date for my advertisers.
Which is another important reason to know that "HITS" are worthless. If you're paying for advertising, you're going to want to know what kind of exposure you're going to get. If the person is who you're buying from is boasting about their "HITS" - make sure you ask what their "Daily Unique Visitors" are. And if they give you a number that is pretty close to the HITS number ... move on (It's impossible.)
Anyway ... I know you didn't ask for that lesson however, it is an important lesson and it's the speech I always delve into when I see the word hits
Take care,
