Talk to me like I'm four please. LOL!

I'm working on my first blog right now. I have adsense and am an affiliate with a few businesses related to my blog content. Why should I write and submit articles to article sites? Is it to get links back to my blog?

Absolutely! That's one good reason. Another would be to brand yourself as an "expert" in your field. You'll not only get the backlinks to your website but you'll also be able to inlcude a bio at the end of your articles so yes you'll get the backlinks BUT also, if someone likes what they read, they more than likely follow the link to your blog/website. Which of course will hopefully turn into a newsletter subscriber or even better a buyer or someone who clicks and adsense link. Yes, article marketing is very good for you. I have a list of places to submit articles on my website at http://www.mommyshelperonline.com/submit-articles-for-free.html

By the way, and forgive me for a little selfless promo here but you might be interested in my ebook Kick Start Your Online Business.

It's a bit more geared to a website but, will certainly help with your blog too Wink

Keep asking questions ... that's what we're here for!

Take care,

Sandy,

Go to ladypens.com You'll find tons of articles submitted by Anita and Kara there. You'll also find articles submitted by me.

If I place the articles on my site/in my blog, I am limited to readership of only those who come to my site. They might or might not find the article in a search engine.

If I place my ad on ladypens.com, she stands a much better chance of getting my article into the search engine AND anyone who goes to her site will find my articles and can use them.

I can't tell you how many times ezine publishers have emailed me that they've used my articles in their publications.

So....if you have a subscriber list of 1000 and you use my article, 1000 more people have seen my article with a link to my site.

Anita,

I love your list....there are tons of other directories out there also. I only submit to a few. I just don't have the time to submit to the smaller directories.

However....when a site owner emails me, I'm happy to send them 20, 30 or 100 articles as attachements and they're welcome to do the submitting themselves.

Yeah, that list is no where close to big enough compared to what's out there and yeah, I have big issue with time too. As a matter of fact, if there's anything I've fallen behind on, it's article marketing Sad

One of these days I'm going to start paying someone to submit for me.

Take care,

okay, thanks ladies! I'm excited about writing my first article! The hardest part of all of this isn't designing the blog, writing content or even finding affiliates.. to me it's the SEO. It just seems so mysterious to me. Article writing and submitting is something I can handle though! Very Happy

I began knowing nothing. I took Crickets class twice. By the end of the 2nd go round, my site was optimized and was number one on Yahoo and MSN. It fluctuated between number one and number 5 on Google.

That was my scrapbooking site. I'm now working page by page on optimizing my recipe site, just one page at a time. Some pages can be found as the number one search, some pages don't even show up on the first 100 LOL. But I'm working on those.

I know Anita and Kara took her class also. It's an excellent beginning to learning about SEO.

Write like you're talking to someone using proper English, of course. Smile You don't need to use fancy or big words. You want your readers to understand what you're writing about.

What topics are you interested in writing about? It's a lot easier to write if you know your topic.

Awesome! Great to see this thread brought back to life! Article marketing is such an important tool to your SEO & internet marketing efforts.

Just a couple notes here before I go on ...

About my article directory list at:
http://www.mommyshelperonline.com/submit-articles-for-free.html

As we speak, this directory is in the process of being updated. I will try to post here when it's completed. My assistant has some more directories to add as well as she's checking all the links to remove any dead links or sites that are no longer accepting articles.

About duplicate content ...
This is a topic that should be discussed when talking about article marketing. It's been a much debated topic as to whether or not having duplicate content can get your site banned from the search engines.

This is actually a topic that website publisher's themselves should be concerned with rather than the actual article writer.

However, regardless of what anyone tells you - it's always best to be cautious. For one, I have been marketing with articles for many, many years and have yet to have any real problems - and this was before I started taking any precautions.

I personally recommend when you write an article that is going to be published on your site AND submitted to directories - make two versions.

No, you don't have to write two complete different articles but I would focus on making at least the first paragraph different than any articles you're submitting to directories.

Another thing you can do is give a basic introduction to your article that's published on your own website (above the article).

This is what anyone who is publishing re-printed articles on their site should be doing. They need to take the re-printed article and write - in their own words - an introduction to the following article.

If you're writing a "tips article" (more on that below), mix up the tips on your own article. For example, let's say you submit an article like this:

Eat a healthy balance of fruits and vegetables daily.
Drink plenty of water every day.
Create an exercise regimen you can stick to.
Don't cut out everything you love - just cut back.
Track your progress.

Now, take that very same article and mix it up a bit to publish on your website like this for example:

Don't cut out everything you love - just cut back.
Drink plenty of water every day.
Track your progress.
Eat a healthy balance of fruits and vegetables daily.
Create an exercise regimen you can stick to.

It's the same article - just not in the same order.

So, like I said - it doesn't hurt to take just a couple precautionary steps. Even google itself says:

Quote:
Duplicate content on a site is not grounds for action on that site unless it appears that the intent of the duplicate content is to be deceptive and manipulate search engine results.

*Duplicate content - Google Webmaster Help Center

Now back to the question at hand ...

What is your website about?
What would your readers want to know?
What type of market are you trying to reach?

Tip articles - something I mentioned above - these types of articles are not only the easiest to write, they're also the most read articles.

Articles should be short, sweet and most importantly to the point.

Your readers are busy - aren't we all? They want the information they're looking for and they want it quick and easy to read.

These types of articles are also the easiest on the eyes.

Long paragraph after paragraph after paragraph is the quickest way to turn your readers off.

I often find myself reading an article and if the paragraphs are too long, it starts to put a strain on my eyes. I start losing my place, going back up a line to make sure I moved down to the very next line, etc.

Then I'll start scrolling down the article and if all the paragraphs are that way, I'm liable to leave the page all together. OR I'll stick it in my favorites. And we all know what happens to everything stuck into your favorites - even with the best intentions - it's usually never seen again.

Oh and you want to keep your sentences short as well.

Quote:
You don't need to use fancy or big words. You want your readers to understand what you're writing about.

Very good point! Doing this is NOT impressing your readers. You're actually taking the risk of leaving your reader feeling "stupid" OR sending them off to another site because they don't even understand what you're writing - apparently your site is way beyond their knowledge.

Okay - enough rambling but I do want to leave you with a couple example "tip articles":

5 Easy Ways to Build a Profitable List

3 Ways to Automate Your Business Fast

5 Stategies to Create Your Own Super Affiliate

Does this help? If not, feel free to elaborate on your question. I'd love to help Wink

Starting a newsletter is also a good way to advertise your website. You can offer a free report or product on your site in exchange for email addresses. You can then use these email addresses to send your newsletter (with your website address) embedded. Such email strategies are quite effective and can generate a fair amount of Internet traffic on your website.
