Anyone care to share some SEO (Search Engine Optimization Tips)?

Three things I've found that help if you have a site:

Keywords: Have good descriptive keywords (words, phrases, etc.) that describe your content and objectives.

Backlinks: Placing links to your blogs, sites, etc. on other sites that allow it can also help with the Search Engine rankings.

Content: Make sure you have good content and update it regularly if you can.

Anyone else have any tips to share?

Three things I found useful to gain traffic through search engine optimization - first is relevant and quality content on a particular keyword usually related to the product/services. Second is link building, link exchange and reciprocal linking so more sites will be pointing to your site as reference. Last one is social media participation so people who have an account on these social media sites will get to know your site because as said word of mouth is a powerful tool that you should utilize.

Wow, those 3 right there are pretty much all I know. Through a connect, I might be going to a big search engine strategies conference in NYC, so I'm sure I'll find out lots more.

To maybe add to the above list, I *heard* that by doing Google Adwords, you get a better page ranking in general.

Before all else, do your keyword research to make sure your chosen keywords are actually being searched for.

Go go www.WordTracker.com and use their trial.

I've seen so many people over the years get excited with, "I'm on the first page of Google for my keyword!"

Well, that's nice, but if nobody is searching on those keywords, it really doesn't matter.

Laughing LOL! Patty! I'm sorry, I soooo should NOT be laughing. It's NOT a laughing matter. Everyone has to start somewhere, right? So, I should not laugh at those who do not know any better.

But, I can't help but ... hmm ... let's be nice and say: I can't help but giggle when someone says "Hey, I'm ranked number one for my name!" Well honey, I really, really hope you are. Cause if you're not - you're REALLY REALLY not doing a very good job. Unless though, you just so happen to have the same name as someone famous - then that's understandable. AND if you are someone famous then yeah, I'd say you're doing the right thing for being ranked number one for your name. Otherwise ... sorry chicky ... not exactly what you're looking for.

If that's the case then dang! I must be making millions in SEO. I'm not just ranked number one for Anita DeFrank and not just the first page ... heck ... I stopped counting on PAGE 10. Laughing

Are people actually searching for your name? Again, if you're someone famous ... sure they are. Otherwise, well, the chances of that happening are pretty much slim to none.

When talking SEO ... you have 3 words to keep in mind first and foremost.

Content ...
Content ...
Content ...

And just in case, we'll throw in a fourth one ... Content ...

Quality, relevant content.

Once you have that, then you can start working on those backlinks, etc. Although yes, you need to work on those keywords but, that's in the content. And yes, you need to make sure your keywords are actually being searched for ... and that's where Patty's resource comes in. Highly recommend WordTracker.com and yes, the free trial is pretty much more than what most of us need. You can upgrade if you feel the need but for the most part, the free trial will do the job.

And let me throw in a selfless promo here but, if you're really struggling with getting your website off the ground and in the search engines, my ebook Kickstart Your Online Business just might give a great big helping hand Wink

Now thanks ... I'm back off to the searches. I seen my name pop up a couple times and I want to see just where they go to Laughing

Take care,
Anita Razz

Wanna know what this whole conversation spurred on? By me doing that google search of my name, some how made it pop up with my name in reference to my BIL's website.

First of all, I didn't even know he had a website but, I'm not totally surprised. He knows the importance of having one and his son also kind of builds on the side. I just sent him a very long email because I don't know who built his site for him but someone is goofing big time, lol! Actually though, I should say building ... not built. It's certainly not finished. But ...

If it is his son, then it's probably understandable but a big goof and it needs fixed. Him, I can talk w/ and help him fix it up. However, if my BIL is paying a professional web designer and this was the goof ... someone is in a bunch of trouble, rofl! Because a professional would not do this. I'm not even sure how it was done in the first place.

I mean, I do because when you view the source of the site, it's more than obvious what's going on but I can't imagine why it would have been done on purpose.

Let's just say my BIL owns an auto repair shop and his site is coming up in the search engines under a roofing service? Not cool, lol!

So little lesson in uh, relevance here. Make sure your keywords MATCH what you're selling!! Laughing Laughing

Take care,
Anita Razz

Can I toot my horn? OK, I will Laughing

I was in a webinar yesterday and mentioned that I was a bit frustrated because I was doing keyword research and using a variety of phrases in blog posts but couldn't find those in Google search. Well, low and behold quite a few of them have finally made it to the 1st page and one of them even #1. Holy cow! I was so excited.

I use the Wordtracker Free Keyword Suggestion Tool and it's been good for me.

Just did a search on my name and our personal website that we haven't really done anything with is #1. But I doubt anyone is looking for my name that much, just like you said Anita.

It's finally starting to come together for me (you know it took me FOREVER to finally understand SEO and keywords and stuff Razz ). Now it's time to learn more about getting backlinks and stuff like that.

Happy SEOing Smile

Thanks for useful tips... Another very important factor you need to check. 3-7 % for major keywords is best, 1-2 for minor. Keyword density of over 10% is suspicious and looks more like keyword stuffing, than a naturally written text.

Having content relevant to your site is perhaps the most important in SEO. You can put all the keywords you want — but if the actual readable text on the page is not relevant to the target keywords, it ends up basically being a futile attempt. Very Happy
